The late Raphael Scott Ahbeng, better known as RSA, is one of Sarawak’s most important artists. Born in Bau and one of eight siblings, Raphel studied Art and Photography at the UK’s Bath Academy of Arts in 1964-1967, and returned to English for a drama course in 1973. The artist won the prestigious Shell Open Art Competition in 1959, 1982 and 1983. His works celebrate the beauty of his people and landscapes. Among collections with his work are the Petronas Gallery and the National Arts Gallery of Malaysia.
